About
Kiran is an Engineer tuned into Design and Innovation. His doctoral thesis focused on Knowledge Management for Innovation in Manufacturing R&D projects. He has a strong background in Design for sustainability, having co-developed and validated a tool that offers guided decision-making for design of sustainable products, services and manufacturing systems. He also played a key role in setting up the smart-factory research facility of IISc.
Kiran enjoys learning and teaching Design because it is more hands-on and favourable to creativity. His pedagogical approach draws from Kolb’s learning cycle and Bloom’s taxonomy, prioritising higher order thinking skills. As a continuous learner, he seeks to learn from his students as they learn from him.
Work aside, he is an avid trekker, with experience of over a hundred treks in the Western ghats, Himalayas, and abroad. Incidentally, he also contributes to citizen science on iNaturalist by clicking plants and insects.
