B. Devaraj is a Bengaluru based contemporary artist, educator, illustrator, and designer whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, drawing, illustration, and visual communication. A graduate of the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, where he earned both his BFA and MFA, Devaraj has developed a distinctive visual language that explores the human condition through expressive figurative imagery, symbolism, and layered narratives. His works examine themes of identity, memory, spirituality, and the evolving relationship between humanity, nature, and technology, inviting viewers into deeply contemplative spaces.

A recipient of the National Academy Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, Devaraj has also received the Senior Fellowship from the Government of India, the Karnataka Lalit Kala Academy Honorary Award, and the H.K. Kejriwal Young Artist Award, among other recognitions. His paintings have been exhibited extensively in India and internationally, including exhibitions in London, Dubai, the United States, and galleries across India. His works are held in significant public and private collections, reflecting his enduring contribution to contemporary Indian art.

Beyond his studio practice, Devaraj has made significant contributions to visual culture through illustration, publishing, and design. He worked with The Economic Times in Bengaluru. Illustrated more than 250 architectural elevations for architects, and designed over 400 book covers for leading publishing houses. His ability to seamlessly bridge fine art, architecture, editorial illustration, and graphic design demonstrates an exceptional range of visual expression.

An accomplished academic, Devaraj has served as faculty at BMS College of Architecture and continues to mentor emerging artists and designers through higher education. His teaching integrates methodical drawing practice, conceptual inquiry, and interdisciplinary thinking, inspiring students to engage critically with visual culture. Through a career spanning more than three decades, Devaraj has established himself as one of Karnataka’s distinguished contemporary artists, combining artistic excellence with education, design, and cultural engagement.
